    Learn PHP.
You have to define variable $players first.

I am not making fun of your PHP skills.
By saying this is the most basic thing in PHP, I want to tell you to learn PHP. You can't do by asking every basic question by posting a new thread every time. The best method to you, and to everyone, is to learn PHP on some tutorials like php.net or my W.I.P. one in the link above, or codeacademy, or w3schools, or whatever you like.

Oh also sorry to tell you to learn PHP. Understanding if(){} and switch(){} blocks is good enough because at least you tried to learn by reading code. I felt bad too when I newly joined and didn't know that class functions must be called with $this->functionName() not functionName() directly (not Java) and @wies told me to learn PHP.

whisper: I never officially learnt at code academy or php.net or w3schools. I mainly got all my experience by repeatedly testing.
